What’s New at Haskell County Healthcare

Emergency Department partnered with Sparks Hospital introduces a new protocol for stroke patients

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in America and the #1 cause of adult disability.

A stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery or a blood vessel breaks, interrupting blood flow to an area of the brain. When either of these things happen, brain cells begin to die and brain damage occurs resulting in abilities such as speech, movement and memory being lost.

But, 80% of strokes are preventable! Treatment can be more effective if given early on.

By partnering with Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Haskell County Hospital's Emergency Department now has:

Interested in Painless Hemorrhoid Treatment?

Haskell County Healthcare is now able to offer a painless, non-surgical remedy for hemorrhoids that is covered by Medicare and most other insurances. The procedure, Ultroid®, requires no special preparation and routinely cares for Grades I-III and some Grade IV hemorrhoids.

The Ultroid® system uses a painless, micro-current of electricity to cause a chemical reaction within the hemorrhoid tissue. The result is reduction or elimination of the swollen tissue. We use salt water which changes to equally harmless sodium hydroxide when the tiny bit of current is applied to the area.

The procedure is painless, non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, or surgery, and can be performed on an outpatient basis from The Specialty Clinic. There is no healing time because there is no cutting. For more information, call (918) 967-5036.

Just a few of the benefits:

We are pleased to announce the installation of four new analyzers in our lab

Sysmex XS 1000i Hematology Analyzer

The Sysmex XS 1000i Hematology Analyzer is one of the most advanced hematology analyzers on the market today offering a 5-part WBC differential count, along with all of the other tests that are included in hematology and requires less blood for testing. As the world's smallest hematology analyzer it has results ready to be reported in only 3 minutes. In addition it is low in maintenance, thus cutting down-time tremendously and has very low operating costs. The built-in monitor allows the lab personnel to view results right on the screen for comparison to the standard color scatter gram.

The Sysmex CA 500 Series Coagulation Analyzer is very fast in its testing! All functions are performed via touch screen and automation which makes the analyzer much easier to use. It has the ability to test 54 samples per hour. In addition, both the maintenance operating costs are low.

The Clinitek Status Urinalysis Analyzer offers touch screen making it simply to input information into it. It is very reliable and has results processed in under a one minute.

Dimension RXL Max Chemistry Analyzer

The Dimension RXL Max Chemistry Analyzer is the biggest machine we have in the lab and offers the most tests. It is an integrated chemistry system and is one of the most powerful and technologically advanced chemistry analyzers on the market. All of our reagent can be on board the analyzer at once which offers faster results, unlike our old chemistry analyzer which could not hold all our reagents. In the past, if a test was ordered requiring a reagent that was not already on the machine, a technician would have to load the reagent, calibrate the machine, and then run QC. Obviously, this took a great deal of time adding to the wait time for lab results. With the Dimension RXL Max Chemistry Analyzer everything is on board and ready for testing at all times. Another great feature of this analyzer is the ability to run tests with plasma instead of serum. With serum there is additional wait time while it clots before spinning in down to test. With plasma the lab technician is able to draw-spin-run, no waiting on it to clot, which allows faster turn around time for patient samples to be processed and on their way to proper care. It automatically loads and unloads flex reagents cartridges. STAT labs are processed in 15 minutes. This analyzer can process 740 test per hour. With all critical labs this analyzer automatically re-runs the sample, which makes the specimen processed faster due to no longer waiting for the complete panel to finish running followed by a technician having to tell the analyzer to re-run the test, it performs automatically. It also auto dilutes samples that are too high for the spectrophotometer to read, the tech does not have to do this, which again allows for faster results. As with all the rest of the analyzers this one too is low maintenance and low operating cost.
